When the going gets toughQuite often in this life things happen that are not planned or foreseen. These things can have a multitude of different outcomes depending on how you handle them. If you are find yourself in a position where you are unable to meet your financial commitments as a result of losing your job, a downturn in your business, or getting a divorce etc., you can get your creditors' support. It may certainly be difficult to cope in these situations but you still can move forward unscathed. The worst thing to do is to ignore the situation. You must communicate. Most creditors, from financial institutions to phone companies, are happy to support you through difficult times, but only if you communicate with them. Let them know your situation and what you are doing to solve the problem. Lack of contact or ignoring phone calls can lead to creditors listing defaults on your credit record or engaging debt collectors. By speaking with them on a regular basis and keeping them informed of your progress, they are generally willing to work with you until the situation is resolved. This may involve making arrangements for reduced or part payments and in some cases deferring payments until a later date. Your creditors ultimately have to be paid but they understand that situations arise that are out of your control. If the situation is extreme, and you can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, you should seek some professional advice. It can be difficult to see a solution when you are in the middle of the problem and quite often the situation isn't as dire as you may think. There are several options that can give you time to breathe and get back on your feet.
