The recent earthquake that devastated Haiti is one sad event that shocked most of the world. Through this tragedy, people in other parts of the globe became aware of the life conditions of some unfortunate countries. As news about the disaster filled almost every channel worldwide, people came to an important realisation. That even though they were badly affected by the economic downturn, they are still lucky to be able to eat three times a day. In Haiti, every fourth child is malnourished. However, this place is just one of those still suffering countries. There are still millions of people out there which are suffering. They are in unfortunate situations as they do not have available food supplies and no clean drinking water. People in developed countries are lucky enough to have fertile lands in which crops can grow. They have wide sea territories wherein abundant sea life provides them with food. They don't have any problems regarding fresh water, too. Sure, prices of commodities rise to some unacceptable extent. However, people have jobs and they expect payche... Read More »
The year is almost over! Most people want to have a clean slate to deal with every New Year. And one way to make things right is to organize our finances. One of the foremost points of contention, so to speak, is our debts. Do we have debts yet unpaid? Are we struggling to eliminate, or even just lessen our list of money or credit card debts? Where do most of our debts come from? Honestly, paying off debts is really hard. It’s like getting off a bad habit, like smoking or playing poker any chance we get. It’s also like losing weight and shedding unwanted bulges around the belly. Indeed, getting off a habit is a slow process and paying off our debts is also a slow process. Sometimes, it would take a couple of months and even a year just to repay one loan, particularly credit card bills or other personal loans. Getting out of debt is not fun, I tell you. It takes a bit of sacrifice and, to some extent, self-deprivation, like doing away with things for yourself, like a new mobile phone or a laptop. Well, I may not understand how much debt you are worrying... Read More »
I've known people who are always anxious about their credit card debts. Most of them are carrying around two or three plastics and all of these have payment dues. Knowing these people, they usually charge everything -- from their lunch meals to big ticket items such as a new treadmill. And it takes them forever to pay off those credit card dues. Me, I try not to use my credit card for small purchases. And for cash emergencies, like repairs on my car, I use payday loans because it works for me. The payday loans have been one of the best financial tools to get some instant cash. Yes, we have paychecks coming in, but every now and then, money becomes tight and there are unexpected expenses to meet. And, at any time of the month, sometimes even nowhere near the next payday. Let me just tell you some of the big advantages of getting a payday loan than charging credit cards or other kinds of loans. Remember, this is from experience, not hearsay. First, it's really quick. You can always count on having the much-needed cash in the soonest possible time. No need... Read More »
Why do people fail in budgeting? Over cold bottles of beer my friends... We all do it, go around complaining about having to stretch our paychecks to the limit. A few times the situation gets even worse and we barely make it to the next payday. And, the culprit we've more or less concluded, is not sticking to our budgets. To be more specific, failing to follow our personal budget to the decimal! It's a huge reality check for most us, and to me personally. So, I did a bit of soul-searching, and came up with a good reason why I don't follow the budget I've made for myself. One hard truth: lack of common sense and discipline. Well, it's like this, when friends get together and good times start rolling, the cash comes out of the pocket too easily. Do you know what I mean? Of course, it doesn't always happen, but it does happen sometimes, right? We love spending a good night out with friends and family, eating at nice restaurants, seeing some good live music and stuff like that. It's all great, if you've got money set aside in your budget for good times... Read More »
Have you ever heard the old saying, "Money is a good servant but a very bad master"? I'm sure you have in one form of expression or another. Maybe you can think of a good friend or a family member who changed because of money, maybe even yourself. It's interesting how money influences our lives. Some spend all their time chasing it and end up not having time to spend it. Others don't care about money and choose to live on the streets and then there's the inbetweeners who find a balance. What works for you? It's a good question to ask yourself because the answer can help you make vital, as well as everyday decisions. Whether your just out of high school and about to choose your future career, debating to get a Holden or a Mercedes, or just trying to decide where to go on your next holiday. It's all about money and weighing the work load up against the pleasure. It's about knowing yourself and what makes you smile when you wake up. Don't get me wrong, we all need money but how we deal with it is the important thing. I mean, money can transform our lives really fast ... Read More »
Health insurance can be an ignored subject. Some have it, some don't and some get yelled at by the tax man if they haven't gotten around to getting it. Most people don't bother. Fit as a fiddle? Well, what if something happens, god forbid, that a payday loan just won't cover? What if it is three in the morning when something stricks? We will always be here when you need us, but it is always a fantastic idea to have a back up plan. Some extra comfort with health cover. Now, it may seem daunting, you type in health insurance into Google and you will be inundated with websites all offering different specials and extras. So, I've done some leg work for you and discovered the best option for most would be Mebi-Bank, but it depends on your circumstances . With each health insurance website, I put down that I was after just the basic cover, single, between 25 - 40 and living in Queensland. (Mind you I can't comprehend why what state you live in would affect your health) Here goes; Medi-Bank
Do you know that many people would have thin or less bulky wallets if they remove the credit cards? True, really. What I mean is, take away the credit cards, people have less cash in their wallets. Is it a good thing? Well, it's a matter of perspective. For example, if you only have what you have, you don't have the reason to overspend or overstretch your budget. Most of the time, believe it or not, many people regularly use their credit cards for even the smallest things! Why not pay in cash? When you pay cash, you are more conscious of your financial state and you have more control over it. But with credit cards? What is my definition of a credit card? Simple. A credit card is what you use today to buy what you cannot afford tomorrow while you are still paying for it yesterday. Funny? But true. Credit cards are basically for convenience—not just for you, but also for the credit card companies. Every time we use plastic, instead of paper (and this is not just in grocery stores), we are borrowing money. Money that, more often than not, is never part of th... Read More »

When an economic crisis hit, the first sector to make noise is the business sector. Less sales, shrinking profits, budget cuts, and massive layoffs are the buzz words everywhere in financially hard times. But there's another sector that takes a major hit and that?s philanthropy and charities. With less cash to spend, people tend to cut the things they think are non-essentials or things that is less of a sacrifice. During financial hard times, charities are very much affected, with fewer donors and corporate sponsorships. Recently, the Australia Council for the Arts gave a negative forecast for this year. Since the worldwide financial crisis is still without let-up, even though it?s looking better, it predicts that people will stop or lessen their donations and contributions, especially to the arts. However, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, Australia?s most admired philanthropist said, ?We all have a responsibility, I think, to our fellows, and everyone?s gift is important.? For those who love the arts... Read More »
This week I had the pleasure of attending the first edition of the Affili@Syd event and for a first time event I thought it was ok. I didn?t come home with major new insights or ground breaking ideas but I did enjoy meeting great people from the Australian online industry. I got the chance to speak to some of our own affiliates in person which was great. I normally only communicate with them on email or talk to them on the phone, so finally being able to put faces to the voices was good.
Three of the major players from the online gaming industry did talks and they certainly knew their stuff. It was good to hear from people who are in an industry with legislation issues and how they deal with that. Being in ... Read More »
