How to use Cash Doctors' budgeting planner:
2. Review the terms of use
Read the "Terms of Use" tab. Once you agree to the terms, move on to the "Let's Start" tab.
3. Start your budget
Enter some initial details into the "Let's Start" tab to start your budget. In this tab you need to enter which year you want to budget for, which month you want to start budgeting, and how much money (if any) you have already saved.
4. Enter your Earnings
Move on to the next tab called "Step 1. Earnings" and select either the basic annual budget or the advanced monthly budget from the drop down. The difference between these two budgets is that the basic budget only requires a lump earnings amount for the entire year, and the advanced budget requires you to enter an amount for each month. Use the basic budget if you receive the same amount of money on a regular frequency, and use the advanced budget if you expect to earn different amounts each month.
Enter ALL of your earnings into this tab, one earning source per row.
5. Enter your expected expenses
Move on to the next tab called "Step 2. Expenses" and again select either the basic annual budget or the advanced monthly budget.
Enter all of your expected expenses for the time period selected. Estimate how much you need to allocate for each of these expenses. We have made it easy for you by listing the most common expenses, plus there are a few additional rows so you can add your own.
6. Track your spending as you go
Move on to the next tab called "Step 3. Track as you go". This tab allows you to track your actual expenses as they occur.
Enter your monthly earnings into this tab (the quickest and easiest way to do this is to just copy and paste the data you entered into the "Step 1. Earnings" tab).
Enter your ACTUAL expenses into this same tab, as you encounter them, to save you a big job at the end of the month. This tab will then show you how much money you have left over at the end of each month.
7. View a summary of your finances in graph format
Move onto the next tab called "Step 4. Summary Graphs" and choose the time period you want the graphs to display data for.
Check out the graphs on this tab which show you things like; you're spending overlaying your earnings, your savings and how they grow each month, your actual expenses, income and savings compared to your target, and a proportional breakdown of your expenses.
8. Bonus tool – estimate your savings potential
Move on to the first of the Additional Savings Tools called "Tool – Savings Estimator" and enter some initial information at the top.
See how much you can save for the next 5 years in the Savings Chart on this tab. You can also enter one off additional savings amounts in this tab, which will grow your 5 years savings plan.
9. Bonus tool – see how long it will take to reach your savings goal
Move on to the next tab called "Tool – Savings Time Target" and enter some initial information at the top.
See how long it will take to reach your financial goal and when you will reach that goal.
10. Bonus tool – estimate your monthly savings requirement
Move on to the next tab called “Tool – Monthly Savings” and enter a few pieces of information at the top.
See how much you need to save each month to reach your savings target by your target date.
